Have you seen the Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) charts in one of the treatment rooms and wondered what all that information means? Well, it’s one of my favorite techniques I use with my patients who are not holding their chiropractic adjustments. In addition, people who are experiencing huge life changes or have past or current traumas can greatly benefit from NET. We all have varying degrees of mental/emotional stress that can impact our health and NET is an effective neurological and physiological approach in clearing your body’s stress.

Hardships and stressors affect our emotions and even the chemical and physical makeup of our body on a daily basis. Research has shown that while the primary locations for the physiology of emotions are in the brain, spine, nervous system and acupuncture meridians, emotions do in fact affect all parts of the body. But what happens when negative emotions linger, and when our bodies don’t return to a balanced state after the initial stress reaction? Periods of prolonged emotional stress can result in neuro-emotional complexes (NECs), which tend to manifest in physical ailments such as headaches, body pain, phobias, anxiety, organ dysfunction and much more. A primary goal of NET is to identify and resolve NECs either via the associated spinal vertebrae or acupuncture meridian.

What is NET? Drawing from traditional Chinese medicine, chiropractic and applied kinesiology, NET is a mind-body stress reduction method that helps treat behavioral and physical conditions by focusing on negative emotional blocks. The goal is to identify the cause of the negative physiological reactions to events and help the patient release it and move on. NET is recognized as a safe, gentle and effective treatment for people of different ages and diversities. The essence of NET is that unresolved stress and emotional imbalances are often dominant factors in chronic or recurring conditions. Many emotions such as fear, anger, grief, etc., can become repetitive stress patterns repeating within the body long after the original event. If these emotional stress responses are left untreated the resultant physical disorders can become chronic. NET uses muscle testing, body reflex points and physiological reactions to help pinpoint the specific causes of negative emotions and when they first occurred.

Although the concept of dealing with emotions and stress has long been associated with talk-it-out psychotherapy, counseling, and other therapeutic modalities, NET specifically works with the ‘physiology’ of emotional/stress responses. Extensive scientific research over the past several decades has verified that an emotional/stress expression is a complex reactive pattern of changes in response to a stressor. This includes changes in brain chemistry, blood flow, and muscle tone. The type and intensity of the reaction may occur in response to a specific person or event and may involve widespread physiological changes, such as increased heart rate, decreased immune response and poor digestion.

NET can be immensely helpful for adults, children and infants in addressing many issues including: anxiety, stress, sleep issues, allergies, past traumas, relationships, self-esteem, fear/phobias, bed wetting and birth trauma. Everyone’s life stressors are different, so every NET session is a personal process. You can learn more about NET and set up an appointment to see how it can help you.
