A Season to Pause and Give Thanks
As we enter November, we’re reminded that gratitude isn’t just a feeling — it’s a healing practice. Taking time each day to appreciate the blessings in our lives can help shift our nervous system out of stress and into balance.

At Vitality Chiropractic, we believe gratitude nourishes not only the mind and spirit but also the body. This month, we invite you to focus on two powerful forms of nourishment: thankfulness and mindful nutrition — especially as the holidays approach.

Breaking Free from Sugar Cravings
Sugar cravings are more than just a matter of willpower — they’re signals from your body, brain, and emotions. Here’s how to gently shift your chemistry and habits toward balance and vitality.

1️⃣ Stabilize with Protein
Protein helps regulate blood sugar and reduce those energy crashes that make you crave sweets.

Try incorporating:

  • Pasture-raised eggs
  • Wild-caught salmon or sardines
  • Grass-fed beef or bison
  • Plant proteins: lentils, tempeh, hemp, chia, quinoa

Aim to have protein at every meal, especially breakfast, to start the day grounded and energized.

2️⃣ Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Dehydration often masquerades as sugar craving.

  • Start your day with 16 oz. of water before coffee or tea.
  • Add a pinch of mineral salt or a squeeze of lemon to support electrolyte balance.
  • Replace soda or sweet drinks with:
    • Sparkling water infused with berries or citrus
    • Iced herbal teas (like hibiscus, cinnamon, or peppermint)
    • A splash of apple cider vinegar in water for blood sugar support

3️⃣ Support Your System with Smart Supplements
Certain nutrients can help reduce sugar dependency and support metabolism:

  • Chromium picolinate – helps stabilize blood sugar
  • L-glutamine – can reduce sugar cravings by feeding brain cells that use glucose
  • Magnesium glycinate or citrate – supports insulin sensitivity and calms the nervous system
  • B-complex vitamins – nourish energy production and adrenal health

4️⃣ Address the Emotional Side of Cravings
Sugar often fills an emotional gap — comfort, reward, or stress relief.

  • Pause and ask: “What am I really craving right now?”
  • Try simple grounding rituals: a walk outside, deep breathing, a moment of gratitude, or a few gentle spinal stretches.
  • Emotional stress, factors and patterns that are held by our systems physiologically and neurologically can contribute to cravings. Dr. Brew practices Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET) to help the body release and resolve these stored emotions and toxins.
  • Sugar cravings may be tied to trauma or unresolved stress. Try therapy strategies such as Organic Intelligence or EMDR to address the root causes of emotional eating.

5️⃣ Realignment and Nervous System Balance
Cravings often intensify when the nervous system is stuck in a stress response. Chiropractic adjustments help restore communication within the nervous system, promoting better hormone regulation, digestion, and emotional resilience — the foundation for lasting change.

Gratitude Practice for the Month
Each day, write down three things you’re grateful for — one about your body, one about a relationship, and one about life’s simple joys.
You’ll be amazed how quickly gratitude can shift your perspective and physiology.
